Hi Everyone! I am conducting a very short survey to find out parent feelings about report card comments. This survey will be part of an in-service presentation coming up in another week.
What I need to know is:
Parents: Do you really read report card comments? What are your gripes with report card comments? What do you want to see in a report card comment?
This will be very helpful to me. Thanks!

RE: Report Card Comments
I like it when the teacher writes comments. It helps me know how my child is doing with things other than just his grades.
I appreciate them
It seems to me that teachers can take the time to individualize a little
With my highschoolers, there are coded comments and that is fine.
I want to know if his homework has not been turned in or if he is disruptive. I would not, at that age, see it as a need for a conference(probably would with an elementary child)
Positive comments are great too, of course
My LD child had a good year with many positive comments
My non-LD high schooler? Well, there were some negatives
What I found bugged me the most was teachers who made comments at the beginning of the year and then stopped
Did my Hs kids behavior improve? Did the good things my LD kiddo do suddenly stop? Or was the teacher pressed for time and simply didnt fill in that section?
I think they should make the comments AND take some time to see what they said last time and adjust the new comments to that
By HS, thats about all the communication we parents get
