Parent/Child both LD

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi!
I am new here…so hope I am doing this right.

I am the parent of a 13 yr old Learning Challenged girl…and I too am challenged.
I work hard to help my daughter overcome her challenges by preparing the years itineray ahead of time. If she has to “find” the info on the computer she is lost b4 she even starts so I go through the internet on a regular basis and keep a file on the addys of sites that she may need.
But this year she is in gr.8 and the curriculm is ahead of what I can handle. I am at a loss on how to guide her. She asks me questions so as to clear things up…but I don’t know the answer because she is now working at a level over my ability.

Does any1 else have this challenge??

I find many parents have this challenge. Modern education is so different from the way we were educated. And many of the tasks of school are just that - school tasks - and we forget how to do them when we out of school in real life.

Most of my students have no one who can help them write a research paper as most of their parents have forgotten how. The work you have done with your daughter is wonderful.

In the best of all possible worlds, your daughter should be able to do her homework by herself and you might want to consider talking to her school advisor about the help that is needed for her to successfully complete her work. Is there any homework support at her school? There are some homework help sites on line.
