Has anyone got any advice regarding games at kids birthday parties for kids with LDs? Are there any that work better than others and are there any that should be avoided?
To be honest I’m struggling to remember what games there are other than pass the parcel and pin the tail on the donkey, but I thought I’d scout out some help as I’m getting involved with organising one - and dreading it (that much sugar is bound to be disastrous).
Thanks
Re: Party games
Go to the library and look up “new games” (tho’ they’re old, it was a 60’s-70’s thing). There are some great ideas for games that can be just as fun, but are less inclined to leave you with winners and whiners and losers. Smaug’s Jewels is one of my favs.
Re: Party games
Thank you both for your suggestions.
Sue, I presume this is a summary of the new games you describe?

They look like a lot of fun - I’m almost wanting to go out and try a few - however I think a few people in the office would look at me a bit strangely!
Scifinut, what’s seven-up? I don’t think I ever got to play that one.
Thanks again, and any more suggestions greatly appreciated.
Re: Party games
Heads-up, seven-up is a lot like Duck, Duck, Goose. Everyone puts their heads down and makes a fist with their thumb up in the air. The “it” person goes around behind them and picks one person by putting their thumb down. That person jumps up and they both race to get back to the chair. The person who doesn’t get to the chair is the next “it” person.
I guess it would depend on the age of the children and how they are effected by their LDs. My son has dyslexia and when he was younger got really frustrated with Simon Says because he had trouble with left/right directions.
If these are younger kids and sugar is involved, make sure you have lots of physically active games - duck, duck, goose; heads-up, seven-up; musical chairs; hokey pokey; charades.
Have fun!
