Phonographix help... teaching 2 kids?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I just read Reading Reflex, and I am interested in doing PG with my son. However, I have a 5 year old daughter also, and I’m trying to figure out what to do with her while he and I are working. She doesn’t read yet, but has strong pre-reading skills - I have no reason to think she’s LD.

Question to the PG experts: Can I do PG with them both at the same time, or is that just impractical? Looking for any advise on how to make this work !!

Ive been doing PG w/my LD 10 yr old this summer and I feel it is the one on one relationship and focus that is helping. I have 2 older kids but I have made a point of clearing them out of the area-no tvs or music within hearing, etc.

Its helped me stay calm. I am far more able to calmly correct him with a ‘try again, please’ than I was in past trying to do schoolwork while the household was bustling around me.

Im sure your dd would benefit from the program, but I would do it with her at a separate time away from your LD child. Its also not out of the realm of possibility this could come easier to her and she could override his attempts, ‘helping” him sound things out and he could become frustrated.

Id stock up on videos and some workbooks she could do independently and insist she give you 30 min of peace. Later you can give her 30 min of stories or board games or her own PG time
