proposed triennial:(questions)

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I have a question for you experts. My son’s sp.ed teacher just emailed me a message saying my son’s triennial is due. Question is this. He was evaled in 4th grade, fall, 1998 in VA. They used lots of different tests. He was evaled in DODDS Germany, fall, 2000 because the school here ‘didn’t have enough info to qualify him for DODDS sp.ed.’ They used only the woodcock-johnson. He qualified both times and has been successful since receiving the help he needed. It is now fall 2002 (still Germany) Are we a year too late or a year early to be thinking the 3 yr re-eval? 1998,2000,2002. We’ve only been in Germany for 2 yrs and 4 mos. (somehow it seems longer)

Thanks for your input.

I emailed back to his teacher after looking at his iep, it states 09/08/03. I reminded her of it and she agreed. We are due the annual iep review. However, she mentioned wanting to reassess before he goes into 9th grade. I can see getting things in place however, if we go back to the states this coming summer, the new school may want to retest just like DODDS did when he entered 6th with an active iep written in 5th from VA. I also think they should reassess using some of the same tests they used in 4th (TAPS for instance, there were like 8 or 9 different tests), DODDS only used woodcock-johnson.
Anyway, I’ll let y’all know what’s up.
