Psychoeducational assessment

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Can anyone recommend a good evaluator in Southern California who will do a comprehensive report on a HS senior with ADD and CAPD? Bright boy, failing classes despite continual effort. Original Dx of depression. This had been under control until the most recent series of defeats. (Our whole family is starting to feel beaten down, so I’m not surprised!)

We have been battling for services for years. Now we are hoping for compensatory post-HS. School District has agreed to do eval but has a limited list of people, who are either not qualified or are too connected to the District. I have checked everywhere I can think of (Ped., ADD dr., local colleges (who require an eval for accomodations, right?)) No luck. Sorry if this sounds negative, but I am running out of ideas. I’m hoping this community has some strong recommendations. My email is [email protected]. Thanks.

Have you tried contacting your local CHADD chapter? Not that this has worked for me… I called the nearest CHADD chapter a couple of months ago to join a support group, and they never got back to me (The ADD organization run by a bunch of folks with ADD! LOL!). But really, that’s just my experience. If there is a decent one near you they might know what direction to point you in. Plus joining a support group could be really helpful for your mindset. My son is still very young (1st grade), so even though we have time to get things on track it still gets us down (Why can’t life just be NORMAL?!?!). Helplessness has got to be one of the most agonizing emotions.

Here is the CHADD website: http://www.chadd.org/

I know others on this board with more experience than I have will probably offer better advice.

Hang in there!!!

Try ISER.com

Also try phoning your local branch of the IDA (website has telephone numbers) and see if your experience is better than mine.

If there are any schools that work with LD children around you they can be a great resource. They usually require testing for admissions, and as a result see the handiwork of all the local psychologists who do testing.
