: The “LD in Depth” section of the LDonline website has some
: articles under “assessment” and “IEP” that
: would likely be very helpful for you. They outline standard
: procedures and tell you what to do in this situation. For example,
: you can file a request for IIE to get outside testing done (the
: school district still pays). These requests are almost always
: granted, especially if the school thinks you are aware of your
: rights.: There is a minimum discrepancy that must be found between IQ and
: performance scores — usually around 20 points. Sometimes a school
: mis-interprets scores. Several mothers have read up on score
: interpretation themselves (there is a good article on this under
: “assessment”) and then gone back to the school to point
: out their error.Mary If you do not feel comfortable with the results I would offer this advice to you after going through a Child Study with my at the time 8 year old who barely qualified for services. Always remember you know your child best and if something does not seem “right” it probably is not. Do your research and make sure your “ducks are in a row”. Know you and your childs rights and schedule and appt. with the appropriate person at your school. There may be further tests that can be given to you daughter to ditect a LD. Every child is not the same as every test is not the same or appropriate for every child. I was given some advice by a special ed teacher I met in a doctors office and though I never had to pull this out of my hat because my school district went ubove and beyond I felt confident knowing I had the info. She told me there is a very good test that can be better at picking up a ld. It is called the Test of Written Language ot TOWl”s”. I found out at the qualification meeting that my son was given this test. I am very passionate about telling parents that you are your childs biggest and sometimes only advocate. Talk to people, get information and go in and demand she be re-tested by an outside service. Best of luck to you.: Mary
