Urologists are often not particularly well versed in pediatric issues, unless they have specifically done training in Pediatric Urology. Urologists are trained first in general surgery and then urology. Urology, being a surgical specialty, is not particularly oriented to issues which have learned behaviors as central to the problem. If the child has a urinary system problem that is not a surgical issue, try an experienced pediatrician or seek a pediatric nephrologist. Such a specialist is trained first as a pediatrician and then as a specialist in kidney/urinary system problems of children. There is a world of difference in how doctors approach any given problem depending on the training background.
