Remediation Hierarchy

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I understand that there is a hierarchy in remediation and that my son is just at the beginning stages however I need to get a good idea of how long this will take and what might be involved. I need a statement from a doctor to take to court with me.

I have results from testing at two different times—lots of results. I suppose he will have to be tested AGAIN but where?

Where should I begin?

Hi, Sharon,

I’d suggest that you describe his problem areas so that people can recommend the right kinds of testing.

What I need is one Dr. who can test for everything so I can get a written report that gives an overall picture.

He is having VT right now and it’s been wildly successful. He has SI and will start therapy for that next week. I suspect some kind of auditory processing problem. At some point, I want him to have Interactive Metronome therapy and PACE or a similar program to improve focus/attention.

My husband left us about 18 mos. ago. I have found a school that is an hour away that caters to children with LD’s. They have offered me a job but I won’t make much because of the tuition for my son. I need something from a doctor saying that my son has special needs so I can try to get some support.

I think a neuropsychologist might be your best bet. I am not sure what kind of support you are seeking, though. I have heard of some special ed. kids getting some kind of goverment support (called SSI, I think), but I am not sure of the requirements. I hope you can, though. It sounds like this school would be a great opportunity!

In rereading your post, I just realized you may have been speaking of child support. Sorry!

Yes, child support is what I meant.

My husband had his own business and made anywhere from $6,000 to $10,000 per month last year while we were separated. Now he has quit all his clients and decided to be a cowboy. He is 43 yrs. old.

Do you think he might be trying to dodge paying child support?
