I am a bit confused and know I will get good information here. My daughter is in the First Grade, dyslexic and goes to the Resource Room for replacement reading, language arts and math. We just got her second report card of the year. The report card is exactly like the reg ed kids, but the grades in the areas above are given by both the reg ed teacher and the spec ed teacher for reading and language arts, the math teacher assigns the grade without the reg ed teacher. My question, should I be getting more than the report card? Shouldn’t I be getting a little update about how she is progressing towards her annual goals? Her IEP states “The district supports quaterly assessment in reg ed and spec ed in response to goals and objectives.” She also receives speech/language therapy 2x week, no report from there either. Is the grade assigned on the report card enough, or should I be recieving the update on how she is progressing towards her goals? At the end of last year, I addressed this with her case manager, asking how could we make goals and objectives for next year without knowing how she progressed this year….No reports from them last year either. (she was “classified in early Jan last year). Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Report Cards for the LD
I have had this same problem. Do you live in CA by any chance? We don’t even have a statement on the IEP about when the parent will receive progress I’ve had to get them to add it. Even after adding the statement I still do not get the progress report unless I ask. At the high school level they feel that all they meet their obligation by putting a comment on the report, ” progress to goals is satisfactory”.

I can only tell you what I have gotten. My son has been in sp.ed in two different school districts, one in VA and the other military DODDS. In both places I received a regular student report card as well as a sp.ed progress report with goals, etc. which was graded as to whether things were being worked on, progress being made or mastered. I would think you should also be getting something like that as well. Perhaps a call to your district sp.ed office to find out the specific rules. Others with more knowledge will answer this too I am sure. Best wishes.
