Today is graduation day for the 5th graders at my daughter’s school. It has been a long sometimes nerve racking year. She got more punish work yesterday, 20 words 20 times each. She did it and laughed about it. She knows the teacher will be back at the same job as miserable as ever next year while she goes on to middle school. I watched this year as she grew from a child into a blossoming young teen. Her IOWA scores were in the 90’s and she continues to rule the basketball court. My point here is that as bad as it seems sometimes—hold on to your beliefs and teach your child right from wrong—teach your child how to hold on to their beliefs in the face of adversity—teach them tolerance for others—and teach them to love themselves. In the end, what we as parents teach our children has the biggest effect on them as adults. They will grow into responsible young adults ready to take on the future. I am very proud of my daughter. She laughs at her dyslexia and overcomes her problems with hard work. She is going to make it.
Re: School's out for the summer!!
I am doing the end of the year count down with my son. In the last couple weeks he has told me things he never told for 2 yrs. with this teacher.
She gives him seat work all day. She doesn’t help him and he wants a teacher next year that will help him. She only lets certain kids do certain things.
He never told me before because he knew I would try and talk to her or write and he was afaid of ramifications.
That’s what I always tell my son,
that I have no doubt he will go on to
do whatever he wants AND he will do
it well. I’m not worried at all.
Schooling, as it is designed now for the
round pegs, is something to be managed.
It has NOTHING to do with HIM.
Enjoy your summer!!
