The date of the testing was May. At the time of testing the child was 8 years 1 month; and finishing 1st grade. The following was also in the report: it should be noted that these scores are considered to be a minimal estimate of his skills. Because of mood fluctuation, nonchalant manner in attempting tasks, haphazard approach to problem solving and lethargy and avoidance of academic tasks were sure to negatively affect his performance on the test. When later given some of the same academic items in a less formal and more playful setting, he was able to do some of the tasks that he didn’t receive credit for on the WIAT, confirming his skills are higher that scores reflect.
Thank you for reading this post.
Re: Scores - where should I go and what to do next
I was just reading about the ACID test for ADD. I guess some believe scores low in Arithmitic, coding, information and digit span are a sign of ADD.
The nonchalant attitude also seems to fit the bill.
I am actually pursuing biofeedback for my son’s potential ADD.
Re: Scores - where should I go and what to do next
My mistake, he was 7 years. He is diagnosed as developmental delay. He hates school, and loves to be outside. He likes to do physical things, but is not good at team sports.
Posted to soon
As stated above he likes to physical things, but is not good at team sports. Swims, rides a bike, interestingly drives a golf cart exceeding well. Loves being outside all day, if possible. Seems to make friends easily, but is also shy. Has had speech, just began OT. Also posted above - has been diagnosed with developmental delay.
ACID test
I thought the ACID test was for dyslexia - or that’s what I’ve read. Linda, can you post where you read it was also for ADD? Thanks!
Re: Scores -continue to ask for a full evaluation
Please take a look at http://alpha.fdu.edu/psychology/low_scores.htm
Also, for information on comprehensive eval. of ADHD take a look at www.samgoldstein.com/articles/0101.html
I found this related to acid test indicating ADD.

ACID test- do not go there
The so-called “CID test”is a way of profiling WISC scores that’s over 30 years old. There’s absolutely no research to support this profile, and it hasn’t been taught in psych training programs for years.
If I had a psych report that referenced the ACID test, I’d fire that evaluator immediately and look for a competent, more recently trained practitioner. Bad news.
If this is your child, he was quite old for 1st grade at the time of testing…are other delays and social/behavioral issues present?? Are these scores a surprise? Were they explained to you? I would consider this the start of a full developmental evaluation to include developmental/behavioral history, physical exam, eval of possible ADHD, etc. One testing doesn’t make a diagnosis.
