My 16 year old son, previously diagnosed with dyslexia has recently had a SPECT exam/testing completed. He lost his IEP as he entered high school as it was determined by the school psychologist that he no longer qualified. As he is getting nearer to college, we are hoping to have it reinstated. We have been told that the SPECT (done at the Amen Clinic) can determine certain learning disabilities. Has anyone found this to be true and been able to use the findings to help with the acquistion of the IEP and/or extra time/accomodations for the SAT?
I’ve never heard of the SPECT scans being used to determine types of LDs. Its still in the experimental stages of being used to diagnose different types of brain disorders, most commonly for ADHD.
