Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions or helpful tips? We finally got a call today from the private speech and language clinic to tell us they have an opening Wednesday for an eval of my son.
In March of this year he had a speech and lang eval done with the public school. I had the testing reveiwed by my special ed advocate who said some test are not valid becuase he received some coachin and others becuase the full test could not be used becuase he got upset.
He is scheduled to have the CAPD eval with an audiologist in about a month and considering all the testing he did have, I am not sure what else they would be looking or evaluating for.
The clinic said it would be about a 2 hour appt. I don’t want to create problems with the CAPD eval and don’t want my son on overload with hours of testing.
What should I be asking, other than what are the testing for and what are they testing with?

When should a speech and language evaluation be used? My son has dyslexia, auditory processing and memory issues. When I look through his file all I find is that he passed the speech and language evaluation during his initial full case study.
I have no results or names of tests. What kind of tests would she have administered to him and should I ask for another one to be done for his re-eval in Nov.? Does a speech/language eval. have any relevance to the disabilities I mentioned above?

I have no idea what tests she would have administered to him. And yes a speech and language eval would be appropriate for a child with dyslexia.. I have mentioned all the appropriate tests in a prior post in this thread…you can read them there..

A speech and language evaluation will also pinpoint specific areas of weakness. My son had one done and in her report says exactly what types of activities will help him. Other tests that she administered that have not been mentioned are Listening Comprehension Subtest Ekwall Reading Inventory, Structured Photographic Expressive Language Test (SPELT), Phonologic Awareness test, Detroit Test of Learning Aptitude, San Diego Quick Assessment List. How old is he again??? You have to make sure that the private clinic DOES NOT use the same tests that the public school used as this will invalidate the results they get. I have given you a lot of tests…I tend to be very thorough when doing an assessement. I would not give all of this but I don’t know what has already been given so that is why I chose these in particular..
So if the district did the CELF—tell them to do the TOLD Test of Language Developement.
If they have done the peabody then have them do the CREVT Comprehensive Receptive Expressive Vocabulary Test.
I would have them do the TOWL which is the Test of Written Language to test his written language skills if he is the appropriate age.
the CASL The comprehensive Assessment of Spoken Language would be good to show his skills with expressive language….
The Illinois Test of Psycholinguistic Abilties would be good to give and the CTOPP the Comprehensive Test of Phonological PRocessing would help with his auditory processing
The TAPS-R Test of Auditory processing revised..would be good to give…to show his auditory memory and attention and logic and reasoning skills.
The Audiologist really doesn’t give the same tests for CAPD that an SLP gives. They do more with CD’s. The audiologist can do the SCAN and the ACPT- Auditory continuous performance test among toher assessments… testing the child in backgroun noise their speech discrimination and thresholds ..
