Stanford Achivement Test

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Just got my child’s Stanford test results. She is in 4th grade and this is
the first standardized test she has taken. Her overall score was at
the 44th percentile, 5th stanine. This is in the “average” range. I realize this score is not great, but considering her issues, I am okay with it. We
are in a private Catholic school, so no high stakes consequences.
My question is , are these tests reliable for measuring a child’s
yearly progress, esp. an ld child?
We were in public school for grades 1-3, and they did not give a standardized test until 4th grade. Our new school tests yearly.
If you score below the 40th percentile, you are required to go to
a resource teacher for extra help, whether you are ld or not.
My child scored at 38% for math, 43 for reading, so she will get extra
help at school for math. I am glad about this.
Do Stanford tests give a true measure of achievment vs. Woodcock
Johnson, etc.?
Thanks,
Stephanie

My son attends a well regarded private LD school. And they administor the stanfords in reading and math each year as part of their own internal review of each child. So I would say that it is considered a legitiimate way of measuring achievement. They give it timed and untimed. ( the kids take it once, but they must somehow track their progress in a specific time and then allow them unlimited time to complete it. ) This has yielded some very interesting results as well .
