My school district has informed me that they are not doing summer school this year do to roofing repairs to be made during the summer.I am very disappointed. My son was greatly helped by summer school last year. I am wondering if they must provide him with some sort of summer tutoring so he can stay on track? He currently has a 504 but we are awaiting a meeting to make that an IEP (waiting for 1 more eval. report). Thanks!
Re: summer school
Hi
If your school won’t come across for your child, you need to do it! The last thing he needs is academic regression!
I have an online tutoring service which will be working with many children this summer, in your predicament. We tutor strictly through email. The lessons are individually written for each child. The fee depends upon how much service the parent wants on a monthly basis.
Check out
www.pleasetutorme.com for much more information or
email [email protected] with your questions, comments.
You can also send your telephone number and I will call you back to talk further!
Good luck!

Re: summer school
If you have documentation from a doctor that your child will regress to a point that he will fall behind to an extreme without summer school or tutoring and have it added to his 504 plan, then they have to provide these services to your child. The school must provide needed services and if you get a doctor’s statement to back you up, they have to do it, one way or another.
If you do not want to go down that road, you can search the net for places to print worksheets and do it yourself. This is time consuming at first, but I have several of them bookmarked and will give you a list if you are interested.
Good Luck.
In my large suburban school district summer school is offered at most of the schools in the district, but one does not have to attend the home school for summer school. If your district is large enough to have another school with the same grade levels you could look into what might be another location he could attend. Good luck.
