tactile problems or OCD?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

DD has been having issues with her clothes and it’s getting worse. (She’s 7.) Now and then, she’d complain about socks and such but this is much different as it’s starting to affect her life and the family’s. Her ped. is running bloodwork (we know she has strep) and I’m trying to get in to see a child psychiatrist but I’m very worried and hate to see her struggle. Except for clothes, she seems fine and is happy, although I see her getting a little jumpy and I think she’s starting to question herself, kwim? She was so happy today when we got her antibiotics b/c she thinks they’re going to make her “skin feel better”. The really confusing thing (to me) is that she doesn’t fit into any specific category. One day certain clothes will feel fine and the next they won’t. It’s so hard for me to understand but I know she can’t help herself. Does anyone have any ideas about this? I’d appreciate any thoughts or advice. Thank you.

Sensory issues can wax and wane for some kids. It might be helpful to get an evaluation for sensory integration. I would think that if it were OCD related it would be more consistant.

I know with my dd that her sensory issues were tied into her mood swings. Things would bother her more when she was really depressed and didn’t seem such a problem when she was manic.
