test results came back

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Well, the last time I wrote to you all was a few months ago when all this testing stuff was just getting started and now I have the test results. My son who has a very hard time with the “little pieces” of any subject has scored average in all areas. By little pieces I mean he scored in the high average range for math but can’t learn math facts. Can read books from the 8th grade reading list (he’s in third) but can’t spell little simple 3 and 4 letter words. The results say that he does have delayed information processing ability but he’s writing, reading and doing math on an average level. What does all this mean and what are they going to tell me at the eligibility hearing. And they are saying that he showed no signs of ADHD but he was taking he’s meds. Were they expecting that I would continue to give him the meds if they weren’t doing the job? Thanks for any insight. PS I still feel like my son is far from average! I wish they could just see him when he is himself.

What tests were used?? I know my school likes to say everything is average buth then when you look at the test scores you realize that the test score doesn’t fall within he average.

I have posted tons of test results on this board and gotten tremendous feedback. I also took my test results to a neuropsycologist and she reveiwed them for me. It really helped to understand what was going on.

Try calling your physician and asking for a referal to a DR. who specializes in learning disabilites.

Trying reading in LD in Depth about assessments, there is a good article on how to read and interpret these test scores.

Schools love to say your child is average because then youthink everything is ok.

Also try reading the post entitled Help!! somewhere in there is talks about how they determine special ed eligibilty. Also, when my son, brother, and sister where tested I posted their test scores and got some good suggestions on what was going on.

Also, since the meeting is next week, you are right, you probably won’t find an psycologist but you could definately find an advocate. They should definately be able to interpret the test scores and tell you what they mean and what you should be hearing at the meeting. They can also go, for a fee, with you to the meeting.

Try going to www.COPAA.net, I think that is the website and they used to have a list of advocates for all the states!!
