Elizabeth…I know Georgetown,I have family there and all around there! I am in Niagara Falls.I phoned my doc. and asked him to set up a test,so far no reply? Should I just get in touch with our former speech pathologist? We do have extended coverage, hubby works for goverment casino
Re: Thank you
Hi Melissa,
I am also in Ontario and OHIP does not cover the testing and my insurance coverage did not cover it. The cost was $300. I had my son tested when he was 7 1/2 and that was 18 months ago, I am bringing him back in July to get him re-tested. When I had him tested he was unable to do all the tests because they were too dificult for him and he was getting frustrated. I would ask your speech therapist if she would recommend an audiologist to you, the audiologist may accept a speech therapist referral rather than waiting for the doctor. Good Luck!
Marie
Re: Thank you
I have heard that you need an experienced SLP for CAPD — don’t know if an audiologist would be capable of anything other than ruling out an actual hearing problem (as opposed to a processing problem.) You need someone nearer to you — but why not try calling a few?
Although you have family in Georgetown, I think you want someone close to you. I know in the case of Halton Hills, they provide treatment as well as testing, so you maybe should look closer to home.
Why not check the yellow pages and call SLP’s in your area and investigate? You NEED to make sure they understand CAPD — not sure how you would make sure of that but I know HH puts out a brochure of signs to watch for, and includes an explanation of CAPD. Pattim on this board is an SLP — why not start a thread with her name in the Subject line, asking for help? Like what to ask and what answers would tell you that the SLP is qualified?
I don’t think you need to wait for a doctor’s referral, if OHIP doesn’t pay!

MELISSA! I’m in Ontario also! You need an experienced SLP who understands CAPD — not all do, I have heard. I’m not sure if OHIP pays, but the SLP could tell you. Definitely if you have extended medical with coverage for non-OHIP practitioners, it could likely be submitted thru insurance.
If you are anywhere near Georgetown, ON, I have an EXCELLENT name for you! (know her personally and best friend works for her — highly qualified.) She owns Halton Hills Speech Pathology Centre, in Georgetown. They offer services over the summer, too, which might be appropriate.
