I doubt there’s a generic XR yet, in fact the key to the release of new versions (the extended release version) is that patent protection (or whatever it’s called) expires on the regular (hence we can now get regular generic adderall).

That said, the XR has been a great help to my daughter instead of the regular adderall.

The only way to know for each person is - with their physician’s ok - to try the namebrand, see what it does, and then try the generic version/versions and try them. It’s impossible to know in advance which will work better.

Years ago recall reading a book with a most unusual title, How to Cure Hyperactivity - about ADHD - Inattentive type - by C. Thomas Wild and Anita Uhl Brother, M.D. (1981) and the book clearly showed how a namebrand could vary from a generic. The book was available through the non-profit Learning Disabilities Association of America and it compared several FDA approved stimulants/alerting agents.

There are cases involving ADHD drugs and epilepsy drugs and drugs for other challenges/neurological disorders where there are cases where a brandname and a generic simply did not work the same but again, it’s individual. Good luck.
