Vocational Program: Employer Appreciation Speech

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi all. Im the parent of a 19 year old vocational student. I am to speak at an employer’s appreciation luncheon in a couple of weeks and will address my (our) appreciation for opportunities for work experience they’ve provided to our children. However, I am at a loss for words when I seek to address offering wages (these students get a 25 cents per hour stipend from the school system), partnership mentoring with other employees (often these employers will allow students to come in a help, but must have a teacher or school representative present), getting them to see the win-win outcome of working one on one with and teaching skills to these students, and valuing the partnership between the business and learning disabled community.

There are several companies in our area that are not interested in this partnership and I’d like to empower them to reach out more and spread the word. HELP. I may have been able to express my dilemma to you all but I keep hitting a wall for the right words. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
