My son has a language based LD, difficulty with the physical process of writing, and is also shy. In middle school he was in a self contained language based LD class, and he argued for 2 years to be mainstreamed. He has had excellent grades, and even made the honor society in 8th grade.
He was accepted into a vocational-technical school, and based on his performance and success in middle school has been placed in a cooperative (team taught - 2 teachers, 1 mainstream/1 sped) program for academics. Five weeks into school he has failed every test given in both academics and tech classes. The IEP team met this morning, and recommends additional help after school several days a week and possibly moving him into the lowest level academic classes. (This was rejected by his middle school team because the curriculum was very basic, and he was well beyond that.)
I think we have made a mistake in enrolling him in this fast paced program, but we are sure that he would also not do well at our local H.S. Is anyone aware of other secondary school options, particularly in the Boston area?
Thanks in advance - MESB
