I know I have asked this before but I can’t seem to find the old post anywhere??
Has anyone ever had this test adminstered to their child?? My son will be having it soon and I am trying to learn as much as I can about it. His teachers suspect a learning disability and wants to be able to understand what type of learner he is visual, auditory, etc?? I don’t totally see how this test will tell her that. I don’t reallly need to know his IQ he is 5 yrs old. I need to know processing speed, auditory processing, visual processing?? He also had a speech and lang eval including a cap screen and phonological awareness and processing.
Is this Wechsler going to be of any help?? I thought maybe they would use the Woodcock Johnson or something similar??
Any suggestions would help!!

Re: Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence
What other tests were used? My son also had a speech and lang eval, cap screen and some type of test for phonological awareness. The teacher is trying to determine how he learns. She doesn’t necessarily need to know how he compares with others his age??
I just don’t want to pull him out of school for a test that won’t tell anything. I also read there are test called the Wechsler Individual Achievement tests? They can be used to help provide a good comparision between the IQ.
Thanks

Re: Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence
At five it is tough to diagnose much of anything like LD because of all the variation in kids generally. You can get a sense of deficits in preacademic skills and intervene early though. My son also had visual processing skills tested in K including visual motor integration. You might have his visual processing skills checked.
My son’s IQ test was part of an evaluation prior to K when a decision on classification was being made. I think it was part of the required protocol. He had been classified as a preschooler with a disability—speech impaired.

My son had this test done when he also was five years old. There are two parts—one which tests verbal and the other more performance type tests. I don’t recall if that is what they are called. I think an IQ test at age 5 doesn’t necessarily tell you the child’s IQ (whatever that really means) but rather how they compare developmentally to their peers. It was part of the decision to classify my son who scored in the lower end of normal at age 5.
