Child is in 10th grade. Due to an operation he has to have home tutoring. It started in oct. For the most part he gets at the most 1 hour a day. a lot of time the teachers drop off work, spend a few minutes and then leave. Josh definitly is’nt getting a quality education.
How much time does a school district have to provide a child in a home tutering situation (new york)? Josh also was supposed to attend 1 period of resourse room every day if he was able to attend school. As it stands now josh will not return till next year.
Any insights would be appreaciated.
Thanks Sharon
Re: when school provides home tutoring question
here in ohio students basically get 1 hour per week per academic subject. This can be pushed a little. The best way i have found to push it is this.
the schools district says all kids on home bound get one hour per week per academic subject- get that in writeing, then go back and say, ok my kid has a disability, i relize the other kids get one hour per week per academic subject, but the law says we have to impliment the iep, and my iep says…..2 hours sp-ed 2x a week and 2 half hours speech and one half hour 3x a week for math, when will those services begin?
If its more then 10 days they are in violation of the law
good luck ;-)
Re: when school provides home tutoring question
New York one hour a week /subject and the teacher should stay If they don’t don’t sign the log or call the school pricipal and mentiion that although you’ve done the homework could someone teach the subject ?
Where I taught HS in Virginia kids on homebound definitely got the short end of the stick. However, technically a kiddo on an IEP still legally is entitled to all of the services in that IEP. I would think you’d have a good argument for them to provide more tutoring on through the summer if need be.
