I f a teacher suspects adhd in a child, who pays for the testing? I know my son was tested at the schools expense for dyslexia when he was. What tests are used for adhd and by who? Thank-you Alice
Re: who pays for testing?
Right. From what I understand, ADHD is considered a medical condition and the school can not diagnose it. They should only suggest that you see a DR. for an attention problem.
Re: who pays for testing?
I dont know if this applies for every state but in my state we were told by the teachers our child needed testing. usuallly from experience you dont rely on the school they tend to push you torwards seeing someone for this so they do not have to pay costs for testing the child. Each district in our school system has a main office and you call that office ask for the administrator for special education and then explain to them, sometimes it takes a little pushing but they can do the testing they usually have a psychologist that can do this testing without cost.not everyone can afford to go have specialized tests done or have the insurance to cover all the testing it all depends upon your situation. but i would atempt to make some more effort to getting the school system to do thier job, especially if theres a chance your child may have also a learning disability. :)
Good Luck
If the school reccomend testing for ADHD they are legally obligated to evaluate. The school psych IS NOT qualified to do the eval, therefore they would need to find an outside psychiatrist, neurologist, dev. pediatrician etc. to do the eval. The schools often tell you they don’t do the testing, leaving the parent to think this means they don’t have to do it. WRONG. they are right they can’t do the testing, but they certainly are obligated to find someone who can.
