Wow Great answers

Can’t thank everyone enough. One surprise was all the times if I had it to do again I’d do gymnastics came up. One more question: Why and what kind would you do. Do You mean just somersaults?? Or something more? Never been much of a gymnast myself or athlete so hard for me to say but it does seem something lacking on the playground.
I feel bad about not having the courage to say something at the library so I’ve decided I will put a poster up at library giving this board address and also maybe mention Phonographix and Lindamood Bell. I was really surprised in talking to a teacher from a neighboring town. They sent three teachers to get the LB training over the summer. However kids are only getting one or two hours a week and somehow that doesnt seem enough for kids in 2nd grade who still can’t read a sentence. Still I was beginning to think the only people who’d heard of LB and PG were on this board.
Thanks so much! You’re all SO AWESOME!!
I can recognize my 4 yr old in a number of posts. Thank you so much for sharing your stories.

Someone here once said that gymnastics is like inexpensive OT. I agree. If you have a ymca near you they have gymnastics classes. You want them to work on things like walking on a beam to improve balance, climbing and learning to jump with both feet together etc…

And swimming. I mean real swimming like learning strokes. Its great for bilateral coordination and apparently having to coordinate your breathing with your body is really good for kids in speech/language.

When I took my daughter to private OT at age 7, her OT told me that gymnastics was the “most inexpensive OT I could have gotten” at her age. Just the balance, learning to do right and left handed cartwheels (something I NEVER mastered :0) ) makes them use both sides of the brain. Good for motor planning, etc. She WAS one of the poorest performers, but it didn’t deter her and obviously helped somewhat.
