Does anyone have information about the “yo-yo effect”? Apparently there have been some court cases involving students who, upon reevaluation, were no longer eligible for services, yet when support was pulled, they did not progress as they should and dipped back down to qualifying levels again. I’ve been told schools must take steps to prevent this, but I haven’t been able to find more complete information.
Thanks — Pam
Just that it just happened to my 15 year old daughter. I was the only one on the IEP team who said no to pulling her services so they did anyway. Within three weks she was failing three classes and almost failing two. They recently put her in a special education study skills class while awaiting the Independent Eval I requested, although legally she is not a Special Ed student(not quite sure how they can do this). So now her grades are all barely passing. In other words no real learning just treading water. Can’t wait for the testing and the thought of compensetory damages is tempting (o:
