My daughter is a senior, with SAT I scores of 1360 and SATIIs in the 700s and high 600s indivdually. She did it as a walk-in. Classified since elementary school, she needs support primarily in organizing, some writing and grammar.
Her grades are not as good as her boards; her activities are terrific.
Any suggestions for colleges with REAL LD SUPPORT AND UNDERSTANDING she could IMMEDIATELY apply to? Her experience in high school was spotty as her large high school couldn’t support her LD or physical needs when she was out ill with a chronic illness.
She is primarily interested in the northeast/mid atlantic region. We’re down to the very end of the application trail and I just found this site! Thank you for any input.

I always suggest looking in the K&W Guide To Colleges for LD Students. You can find it in any library or good book store. Or order it from amazon.

You might want to check into Bethany College in the northern panhandle of WV (about 40 miles from Pittsburgh, PA). Bethany is a small, liberal arts college and has a department devoted to the support of students with LD. The students receive practical help, as well as one-on-one support with their assignments, including reading, writing, proofreading, organization, etc. In addition, we offer extended-time testing, notetakers, and tutors. Visit the campus and Special Advising department; talk with the students. The number of the Admission Office is 1-800-922-7611. You can get information and set up a visit through them. They can also put you in contact with the Special Advising department.

I have a Peterson’s “Colleges with Programs for Students with Learning Disabilities or Attention Deficit Disorders” Fifth Edition (1997). Lists over 1000 colleges programs. Peterson’s has a web site, too. I don’t know if these ld programs are listed there, but you could look.

Your daughter sounds like a excellent candidate for Gannon University, on the shores of Lake Erie in NW Pennsylvania. Gannon, is a small (3,000 students) private university that offers an excellent, comprehensive program for students who have learning disabilities. The program offers full-time professional instructor/tutors, academic advising, extended test time and upon request, for exams the program offers readers and/or scribes.

She might want to check out Meredith College in Raleigh, NC., a private women’s college. Think about this: Girls don’t have to spend hours on hair and make up before they go to class, since there are no boys to impress in class…but plenty of them right down the road at NC State. Classes are for LEARNING!(G) Classes are small and expectations are high. At the same time, the college works very hard to help each student reach her potential.
