Scholastic Aptitude Tests

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I have read that accomodations for the 2003 SAT test (they were talking about SAT I specifically) would not be identified to colleges/universities- so in other words, apparently colleges will not know if a student had any type of accomodations for the test, if the student does not reveal this information to the universities he/she is applying to. Is this correct? Does anyone have any info about this. I think it is great and long overdue.

There is an article there about it

— it poses some interesting issues.

Sad to say, competitive parents *do* try to get that label. Personally I don’t think they should be the people we base the laws on, though. Do doctors say “don’t prescribe drugs because some people find a way to get a prescription to abuse or sell them?” I didn’t think so.
But… a teacher friend of mine really did have a parent who tried valiantly to get an “accommodation” for her “gifted/LD” child, who “only” got a 92 (or was it a 95?) on a test. SHe specifically wanted a copy of the test several days before her child had to take it. (I kid you not.)
Of course, this was pretty transparent and no, the school didn’t go for it — and yes, the teacher did make sure she did everything in her power to enable that young lady to get a 100 in more acceptable ways since clearly that’s what she wanted. But when I think of people who *know* 100% of the information and all they want is to be able to express it… or the ones capable of learning it but who aren’t given that chance…
