YIKES! Well I never have gone too much for DJ’s reading stuff, but this was the last straw! On the back of the flyer was a lengthy article written by Dr. Pat Cunningham about the wondefulness of 4 Blocks. Mind you DJ software isn’t for neurotypical kids, so it is pretty bad that they are hyping this for ld, probably dyslexic kids. I haven’t seen the software she wrote, WordMaker. Still she goes on and on about how teaching rules doesn’t work and so on. I know PG doesn’t really teach rules, but this was not exactly PG.
Of course throughout the little flyer they praised systematic and explicit phonics. So it’s nice to talk out of both sides of the mouth. :-}
