Accommodations

I am trying to compile a list of helpful accommodations that can be used by classroom teachers with my L.D. students in grades K-2. I am looking for accommodations in the areas of reading, spelling, math and written language. Does anyone know of any websites that might be helpful? My hope is that this list will be helpful to the regular ed. teacher as he/she works on filling out a referral on a student. Many times they draw a blank on various types of accommodations they have made or will make for the student. If I can provide them with a list, it might serve to jog their memory a bit! Plus, give them some additional ideas to try with the child. Thanks to anyone who can help!

This is a place where semantics can be tricky. At the K-2 level, “accommodations” for reading, spelling, math and written language should involve *teaching* those skills. Hey, if using better teaching methods happens because it’s called “accommodations” — great!!! On the other hand, if students are already expected simply not to be able to acquire those skills, and thus they’re “accommodated” by getting rid of that expectation, well… not great. S*ck City.
