I just checked into an older program that I have used as a phonics supplement, and yes it is still alive and thriving. To go with the flow of present fads, they are now selling their materials as a supplement to make “whole-language” programs effective (a good plan!)
The company is Phonovisual, and the website is www.phonovisual.com
This is one that requires the www, or it won’t show up on a Microsoft search.
The materials include:
Consonant Chart and Vowel Chart — both wall-size and individual student copies. Wall-size is laminated, and student charts can be laminated or put in plastic covers to keep on desk for reference. These charts are organized in the pattern of how and where in the mouth the sound is formed, a sound linguistic format. Each sound is presented with one major spelling, a couple of other common spellings if it is one of the multiply-spelled ones, and a picture for a key word. These are an excellent summary. They would work well with Lindamood-Bell (same basic concept of linguistic analysis of sounds) or Phonographix/Reading Reflex.(same basic concept of sound to spelling). Highly recommended — I’m going to get a set of class size for my ESL students.
Workbooks – very clear and complete. Unfortunately when using these for remedial students I found them rather dull, but for a student who needs a lot of review and backup they can be helpful. Recommended for that student who just needs to go over things many times.
Other materials — untested but should be useful. This is a nice down-to-Earth company that sells what is needed to teach, at a moderate price, and doesn’t add on thousands of expensive bells and whistles.
