My daughter just had a S/L evaluation done a few weeks ago. I need some help in figuring out if her results would qualify her for an IEP for speech therapy from the school.
Goldman-Fristoe Test of Articulation II- 20 errors. Standard score 62.
Frequent errors included gliding and fricative/affricative distortions.
Expressive and receptive- average scores
OWLS- Standard Score Language Age
Listening comp: 89 7 yr, 6 mo
Oral expression: 76 6 yr, 3 mo
total test score: 81 6 yr, 11 mo

Hi Drae,
I am an SLP. Is this all she tested her on? She didn’t do more discriptive analysis stating strengths and weaknesses when she gave you her report?
The SLP may say that gliding is developmental. But she has some other low scores too. I would think you could push for RTI which is response to intervention. With this latest model of special education they have to meet the child’s needs when they are having difficulty instead of using the discrepancy model for qualifying for services. I would suggest a trial of speech therapy to work her articulation errors and auditory processing and expressive language issues. Any other details that you can provide from the report would be helpful for me to give you are more complete analysis.

Thank you for replying!! All of the tests that I gave scores for are the only ones on the written report that she gave me. She reports average scores with expressive and receptive vocabulary skills. She said that MJ’s total test score on the OWLS (6 yr, 11 mo) indicated a MILD language delay. Expressive errors included having difficulty with asking questions appropriately, using irregular past tense verbs and using passive voice correctly.
The SLP’s overall impression was that she demonstrated a severe articulation, moderate expressive language and moderately abnormal perceptual skills as measured on the TAPS-R. She recommended therapy 1x/week. What other information can I give you? The report wasn’t very detailed but let me know if I’m leaving something out that might help.
This is a private evaluation that I had done. I am not sure how to approach the school for an assessment or if I even need one now that I have had an evaluation done, but simply how to get them to accept the eval and write an IEP for it.
Oh, one more piece of information, she has moderate central hearing loss. Odd case—very strong LEA on all dichotic listening tests.

Not an SLP, but I think you also need to post your dd’s actual age in order for the scores to be meaningful.
