Asperger Syndrome--Books for Parents
Does anyone know of good books for parents of an Asperger Syndrome child?
There are quite a few available right now. The ones I’ve read and liked recently are:
Asperger’s Syndrome: A Guide for Parents and Professionals
by Tony Attwood
Asperger Syndrome in the Family: Redefining Normal
by Liane Hollliday Willey
The Autistic Spectrum: A Parents’ Guide to Understanding and Helping Your Child
by Lorna Wing
The World of the Autistic Child: Understanding and Treating Autistic Spectrum Disorders
by Bryna Siegel
Emergence: Labeled Autistic
by Temple Grandin
Thinking in Pictures
by Temple Grandin
The books that don’t have Asperger in their title do include Asperger’s and are very good. I especially love Bryna Siegel’s book. The two books by Temple Grandin (a famous Aspie) are fascinating because she explains pretty clearly how she thinks. Also, the writing itself, esp. in Thinking in Pictures, is a bit odd and very typical of someone with Asperger’s.
There are many other books but these are the ones that I personally own and that have educated me.
