Autism

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am currently finishing my student teaching and had an experience while substitute teaching that got me thinking. I subbed for a 2nd grade classroom and had one student in the class with severe autism. The other students in the class seemed to have adjusted and worked really well with him. However, I realized that as the teacher I really didn’t know what to do with this student as far as curriculum instruction. He had an aide that pulled him out to work for a few hours, but for the most part he was in my classroom. I want to be able to maximize the learning experience for all students in my class but I have little experience with autism. Any ideas/tips would be greatfully appreciated!

Thanks!
