Boardmaker

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hello,
Is anyone using Bo9ardmaker or Writing with Symbols? If so, what can you tell me about the two programs and their usefulness?
If you taught 1st and second grade students with various special educational needs, how would they benefit you and your students?
Thanks

I have a friend who uses both Boardmaker and Writing with Symbols at home and school for her autistic son. Boardmaker she uses to mark the calendar with places he will be on certain days. She uses the school’s software. Writing with Symbols is another great software that she uses to make story books for him about “Going to School:, “Going to the Dentist”. “Getting a Haircut”, etc. She says they are both great software.

I am a resource room teacher and I use Boardmaker for making picture/visual schedules for students. I print out the needed pictures from the program, cut them out and laminate them. I then put velcro on them and make a schedule board. I can then arrange the picture schedule to represent the student’s day. It is very helpful for students who need visual supports. I have also used the program to make reward boards.
