brain gym

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I was wondering if anyone had tried this approach with students and what their experience has been. My understanding that Brain Gym (Educational Kinesiology) is a series of excercises/body positions. Each set of exercises (or balance in their terminology) is supposed to work to achieve a certain short-term outcome. For instance, some sets might help a person calm down, another set might assist in focus and listening. In my limited knowledge, these work to get the brain in a certain frame of mind in order to then accomplish set tasks rather than providing lasting change after doing them for a period of time. One would use them as some people use meditation or other self-calming techniques for example. I am curious, though, has anyone on this board used these with kids and has it helped? I am trying to decide whether or not to take one of their training courses. Thanks in advance for any input!!

My principal and three teachers just returned from observing a school that is using Bridges Learning Systems. It sounds similar in nature. All four of them came back very impressed with the program. Why don’t you check this program out as well?

I personally would need to see the program in action and hear from both students and their teachers about how effective these programs are.
