CAPD???

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

One of my students has a diagnosis of CAPD. Can anyone tell me where I can find more info on this. I know what it stands for, just looking for ways to teach reading and comprehension with this disability. He’s reading at the 1st grade level.
Thanks,
Kim

http://pages.cthome.net/cbristol/ is a good place for information on CAPD. It includes links to articles on how best to accommodate it in a classroom setting. There are a number of subtypes of CAPD, and best remediation approaches vary with the subtype, according to one of the articles there.

Another good place for information is the “LD in Depth” section of this website. If you use the search option, you should come up with a number of articles, including some with recommendations for teachers and classrooms.

Have you asked your speech-language pathologist for info? I am a SLP and work with a CAPD student, who is also seen by our LD teacher. There is an excellent book put out by Communication Skill Builders on CAPD-I can’t recall the exact title but see if your SLP has a catalog. If not email me and I will get you the info.

Have you tried an auditory trainer. How about the Lindamood for phonemic awareness training. Jerome Rosner’s book has some good info on auditory discrimination activities.
