Does anyone know of specific materials or programs to improve a college student’s comprehension of textbooks?
Re: Comprehension of Textbooks
There’s a neat book called “Textbooks and the Students who Can’t Read Them.” (I don’t recall the author — but do a search on Amazon and you’ll come up with it.)
This is a topic that’s been explored a fair amount, so I suspect you’ll also find some info online and certainly in the journals. Do a search for text AND comprehension on google or at http://ericir.syr.edu (no www) for the journals.
You could try Cornell notes. I’m sure if you do a search you’ll find a site that teaches Cornell notes. Some people swear by them as an aide to comprehending textbooks.
I find most textbooks dry and incomprehensible. Many people do.
