Of interest to Teachers, Parents, School Adminstrators, Consultants, Adult Learners:
Thomas D. Scheidler MsEd and Andrea Scheidler MEd, co-founders of Greenwood School; Putney, VT, for students with academic learning difficulties, are returning from a workshop/speaking tour in New Zealand in early February. The Scheidler’s have twenty-five years experience with using creative arts to motivate students to learn. They will be in Tucson AZ and available for workshops and consultations in the Southwest till mid March 2004.
“ARTISTIC, DRAMATIC, DREAMERS”, is a one or two day lecture/workshop that includes incredible video footage of students between the ages of 8 and 16 who are dyslexic and in some cases, non-readers. Historic videos from mid nineteen-eighties and as recent as 1999 show students performing onstage and on film. Videos made by and with former students in autumn of 2003 show them commenting on the importance of visual and performing arts to their success as adults in various fields.
Depending on the length of the workshop, participants learn useful techniques for developing a dramatic arts program that strengthens verbal skills, and helps kids develop the courage and desire they need to test their personal limits.
The Scheidlers demonstrate how imperative it is to focus on student strengths and foster intellectual growth through challenging work in non-rote areas, in order to help them maintain interest in higher education.
If your institution or parent chapter is interested in hosting a workshop, the Scheidlers may be contacted at : [email protected].
