curriculum for visual spatial learner?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My husb. and I are considering homeschooling my dd. beginning in Jan. She seems to do better with hands on learning so we are interested in Math-u-see, and are thinking about using a home school program offered through one of the dyslexia schools for Language and spelling. I’m not sure what else is available that has a book to keep me organized, yet allows more hands on learning for her in any of the other subjects. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

PASSWORD>aa/0rc.cpD64kI stumbled across this post, and felt the need to respond at this late date…We have just discovered that we have visual-spatial family. It explains much to me, and I have some homeschooling experience I can share. When we pulled my son out of public school he was way behind in math. Trying to teach him the times tables was so frustrating until we were given a multiplication course that came as a bonus with the Math-U-See course. It seemed that he would have the facts down, and then they would slip right out of his brain again using the rote memorization method. If you go with Math-U-See, ask them for that multiplication program. It is one book with great visual/verbal clues that really helped my son. He aces multiplication now. The other thing I did with him was to have him create a multiplication chart where he saw the numbers progressing visually, and saw the overall pattern. Skip counting is great for this too.I would also highly recommend looking into the Core Knowledge curriculum. They have a website online at: http://www.coreknowledge.org/They have the best curriculum I found, and they include a wide range of subject materials in their learning. I find that CK and the Charlotte Mason teaching methods complement on another and many of the homeschooling families that belong to the Core Knowledge Homeschooling Listserve combine both CK and CM.I have lots of other info I can give.
