How do you define “inclusion” and/or “inclusive classroom?”
This concept seems to be very different between school administration, teachers, students and parents.
Thanks,
Lil
definition
In our school, they are only putting 4 LD students in the inclusion classroom. They school has 3 inclusion classrooms.
Re: Definition?
In my district, they don’t use inclusive classrooms at the elementary school level. They do in middle school—almost exclusively. They put 1/3 LD kids in a class. I think that is excessive. They also only have LD teacher in class for 20 minutes—she pulls all the LD kids to a table. Talk about stigma!! .

inclusion-what state and town you're in defines it
In our town in Mass., in elementary school, every classroom is an inclusion classroom because there are NO resource rooms or special pull-out settings. In middle school, the most severely involved students attend a self-contained class and the rest of the students are scattered among 10 sections of each grade.
inclusion
An inclusion classroom is one in which there are general education students and students who have been found eligible for special services (learning disability, mental retardation, etc.). Students who are able to function in a general education setting with support from a special education teacher or aide are supposed to be the students who are “included” in this setting. An inclusion classroom is one the closest to the regular education setting for children with special needs.
Re: Definition?
Oh, SAR, talk about a law-suit potential! No pull-out in elementary????? Uh-oh. What happened to the I in IEP?

Hi Lil,
Inclusion and inclusive classroom mean the same thing. Inclusion is when a child is in a regular education classroom with a special education teacher or aide with them. An inclusive classroom is a classroom that has the LD students in them.
