Differnce between IQ and memory

Hello, Could any one tell me if having a point differnce of 20 between your IQ score and memory score qualifies a child for special education and if so where can I find this information?Thank-youDiane

No, not usually. The discrepency you are talking about is called an intracognitive discrepency and would typically be used to document a processing deficit, which is one of the “gates” you need to go through to establish eligibility.Once you have a processing deficit, you look at achievement scores. There needs to be a 1.5 standard deviation difference between the overall cognitive ability and an area of achievement to be eigible for Special Education.Then you look at adverse effect (what does all this meaqn relative to school performance) and need for specialized instruction.All this being said, different states and counties and districts within states do eligibility a little differently from each other, which is very frustrating for parents and teachers. So, you need to talk with the folks in your district.In general though, this is the process. Robin
