This week’s People magazine has an article (Pg. 189) about a new kindergarten screening test for dyslexia. it was developed by a young man whose brother is dyslexic. Anyone kow anything about this?
Re: Dyslexia Test-People Magazine
I’d be leery of somebody whose knowledge base is a dyslexic brother — any other credentials? Not necessarily letters after the name… but experience with more people?
Lots of people who find “the key” to their own dyslexia or that of someone they love want to spread the news and share what they’ve found… often at the expense of logic, and to the pain of anyone who thinks they have found “the key”… only it isn’t for them, but who wants to admit that what is such a blessing for , it seems, everybody else isn’t for them — must be sometbing they did?
Go to the NIH/NICHD study on teaching reading (available through LD in Depth on this board) and click through the links to the early reading and readiness section; there you will find outlined some scientifically proved predictors of reading learning, notably segmenting and blending tests. These are simple and known to be accurate.
