Fast Forward

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I’m an L.D. teacher, who is always searching for things that may work with particular students. I have heard people discussing Fast Forward and was wondering what it was and what type of child it is geared toward. Thanks

FFW website is http://www.scilearn.comFFW is a computer program that uses acoustically modified speech to train the auditory system to process the sounds of speech more efficiently. It can be extremely helpful for children with specific types of auditory processing problems — the decoding sub-type of CAPD, I think. The software normally costs $850 per child, not counting the provider’s fee, so it is quite expensive. For a child with the type of auditory processing problem it addresses, FFW is wonderful. For other children, there is little effect. Unfortunately, it is often used willy-nilly for any child who has a problem learning to read.Mary: I’m an L.D. teacher, who is always searching for things that may work
