Could someone please explain what the WORD test and TOPS tests looks for. Oldest son had a language eval most scores with SS’s of 89-100, except on the WORD test SS of 75 and TOPS of 74. Also just a curiousity question. On the school wide achievement testing how can they record NA for national percentile rank because test was given out of level but still provide a local percentile? I was told he was given the appropriatte test for his grade but because he was coded special ed it was condsidered out of level. Does that mean that is local percentiles are only comparing to other special ed students in the district or is he actually being compared against his peers. It would make sense if it was against all his local peers because his percentiles were 12-84, but if it was against all special ed students the 12 percent would really worry me. Any thoughts please.
Word Test Info
I didn’t see the TOPS but did see the WORD listed at Linguisystems website
http://www.linguisystems.com. TOPS stands for Test of Problem Solving. I can’t remember who publishes it, though.
Your other questions must be addressed locally. This type of thing varies by school district and state.
Sorry, never heard of TOPS and WORD. But for the achievement tests I have been trying to find out the same thing. Our director tells me that local is within all of his peers. I have tried to use these scores (which are in the 2nd through 10th percentile) to try to make the point that my son is floundering in his inclusive classroom. When I said this, the principal tells me they don’t really look at the local scores. The curriculum director says his statement is false. I think it is very important to take his standing into consideration since school causes him enough anxiety to be seeing a private psychologist. They just don’t seem to think it is important.
