focus

Can anyone suggest some strategies for helping a child stay focused at school? My son will “drift off” during assigned work at school and needs a self checking strategy to get himself back on course. Thanks! :D

If this is the result of ADHD, self-checking may not be the best approach. If he were really up to that task, he’d already be doing it. For the same reasons that he can’t get himself to stay focused, he will also find it difficult to remember to check if he is focusing. What may work is to have him work out a sign with his teacher to let him know when he has drifted, such as putting a hand on his shoulder casually, or standing (in a nonobvious to others way) next to his desk.
