After moving my classroom yet again I found some pamphlets I sent away for that area actually quite good. I am quite surprised with how much I agree with this government document called “PUT READING FIRST, The Research Building Blocks for Teaching Children to Read Kindergarten though Grade 3. This would be a great read for those of you who have student teachers or parents who want the latest research in one nice handy, dandy format. If I were a principal, I’d make each of my teachers read this and know what all the words mean because it takes all of this information to get a child to read successfully. You need each of these parts to reach an entire class, especially the lowest 30% who I advocate for whenever I get the chance.
