Free software in exchange for testing

Engage your students with computer board games

I have created a piece of software, called BoardBOSS, that will be sold commercially once released, and I am currently seeking people to test it. You (or your students) can use the software to create computer board games not unlike Trivial Pursuit, Clue, or Life. This is Windows software, and games created with it can be played on nearly any computer running Windows using the free Player.

You can use any GIF, JPG, or BMP graphic file for your game board; customize your game with choice of font, game music, and other aspects of the game; and create an unlimited number of your own game cards in an unlimited number of card decks.

When your students play games you’ve (or they’ve) created with BoardBOSS, they can choose an icon (their playing piece) that travels around the game board as they correctly answer the questions you’ve created.

The software is nearly finished but is not yet commercially available. My request is for a handful of people to test the software. It is actually quite close to release, so I am most interested in people testing it to uncover any remaining fatal flaws. The vast majority of the bugs have been ironed out, and suggestions for changes and improvements most likely won’t be incorporated until the next version. Actually, I would like to get reports of positive experiences with the software as well as bug reports.

Anyone who would be willing to spend a couple of hours testing BoardBOSS by creating one or more of their own board games, testing the Player by playing those games, and reporting on their experience with the software will receive a free registration upon release of the software for sale. Registered users get updates up to the 2nd major version, are entitled to a 20% referral fee, can upload their games to my online game catalog (where I plan to only host kid-safe games for anyone to download), and elegibility in a $50 monthly contest. My ultimate goal with BoardBOSS is to build a library of computer board games created by students and teachers that can be shared to enrich specific curriculum areas.

If you are interested in this exchange, please email me privately. To find out more about BoardBOSS and download the software, visit http://www.boardboss.biz/teachers.

Thanks,
Neal Helman
