GED for LD students-preperation???

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Does anyone know of online GED instruction/prep class for LD students? Or…for that matter, any courses that would prepare the student systematically for the GED ? My son is almost 17 and I am homeschooling him….a very slow process, at this rate he will be 30 before getting out of high school. I plan for him to attend Landmark College (keeping my fingers crossed at least) Thank you Martha

Most public school systems and/or community colleges have GED preparation classes. A lot of the people in these classes missed out on high school for various reasons from helath problems to dysfunctional families to undiagnosed LD. If you get a reasonably good instructor, the class should be supportive — everybody else is in the same boat.

However, make sure he is ready to benefit from the class before he starts it; he needs a Grade 9 or so reading and math level before the instruction will make sense to him.
